Integrated Electrical Services Commercial (Nasdaq: IESC), (www.ies-co.com), a leading national provider of electrical and communications services, announced today that it was presented the prestigious ABC National Safety Excellence Award on Thursday, February 4, 2010 during the 20th Annual Excellence In Construction banquet at the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC) National Convention in San Diego, CA. IES was among only 23 winners to receive a Merit award from ABC's membership of more than 25,000 contractor members. IES is being recognized in the Section 7 category for Specialty Contractors with more than two million man-hours worked. Harvey Hammock, vice president for safety at IES, and Robert Warwi ck, general manager of the East Division for IES, were on-hand to accept the award on behalf of IES.
In 2009, 2,231 ABC contractor members applied for the Safety Training Evaluation Process (STEP) program. 801 of those earned the prestigious STEP Platinum status, given to companies displaying the highest levels of safety performance and long-term commitment to jobsite safety. The criteria for determining the winners was based on data submitted via STEP Platinum applications, company interviews and site visits. Award categories were based on a company's total work-hours per calendar year and placement within the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS).
"IES is part of a select group of ABC contractor members whose achievements in the field of construction safety are truly exceptional," said Chris Williams, director of safety at ABC. "The Excellence in Construction Awards celebration honors the most innovative and high quality construction projects and safety programs in the nation."
"We are honored to be recognized by ABC," said Michael Caliel, IES president and chief executive officer. "This award is considered across our industry as one of the premier measures of a company's safety performance, and all of us at IES recognize the importance of work-site safety to the successful completion of construction projects. Visible Light Solar Technologies, a solar and LED lighting technology innovator, today announced it has formed a strategic alliance with the nation's second largest electrical contractor, Integrated Electrical Services (NASDAQ: IESC) for national installation and maintenance of its solar/LED and LED lighting solutions to businesses, municipalities and educational facilities. As part of the agreement, Visible Light Solar will utilize IES's vast network of professional electricians and technicians to help customers dramatically reduce their lighting energy expenses, maintenance costs and carbon footprint.
Visible Light Solar is the first commercial and industrial lighting company to fully integrate LED lighting devices, solar power technology and advanced power management systems in exterior and interior lighting fixtures. The company's broad line of solar/LED lighting applications operate up to 85 percent more efficiently than their standard counterparts. In addition to dramatically lowering energy consumption, Visible Light Solar's LED solutions reduce ongoing maintenance costs through much longer lifetime expectancy than HID bulbs (five to 10 years versus one year for most HID bulbs). The bulbs are also resistant to thermal and vibrational shocks, and because they do not contain toxic materials like mercury, or require ballasts that often contain PCBs, they are more environmentally sustainable.
"We are excited to work with Visible Light Solar Technologies to deliver greener, more energy efficient buildings that reduce operating costs and minimize environmental impact," said Michael Caliel, IES President and Chief Executive Officer. "From construction through operation and maintenance, efficient energy use through renewable resources will become a leading metric in assessing a building's performance."
Dee Dennis, Visible Light Solar's president and chief executive officer is enthused about the alliance with IES. "We are changing the lighting industry with solutions that provide immediate ROI and are thrilled to have the scale, expertise and reach of IES to help bring our solutions to market quickly and professionally. IES has a long history of successful and safe systems design, installation, maintenance and testing in the commercial and industrial markets. Their electrical and communications expertise combined with our products will help put our customers on the forefront of environmental effectiveness and energy responsibility."
Based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Visible Light Solar Technologies (www.visiblelightsolar.com) is an intelligent solar and LED lighting technology company. Visible Light Solar provides businesses, municipalities and educational facilities with retrofit as well as new solar/LED lighting solutions that save money, reduce maintenance costs, and are environmentally sustainable. Visible Light Solar is a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society, US Green Building Council and the International Dark-Sky Association. The company is backed by the venture accelerator firm, Noribachi (www.noribachi.com).
